Virtualisation specialist Parallels has released a version of its Server for Mac software designed for Apple's Mac Mini desktop system.
Parallels Server for Mac 4.0 Mini Edition allows customers to run the Mac Mini system as a Mac OS X, Windows or Linux server system.
Designed as a value-priced version of the desktop Macintosh line, the Mac Mini sports a compact design and is pitched as a low-cost, energy efficient desktop system.
Parallels said that the Mac Mini also offers small and medium-sized businesses a low-cost way to create a multi-platform server, and can appeal to companies looking to consolidate servers for applications such as SharePoint.
"Smart organisations can get even better performance and savings from their Mac Mini server by using Parallels Server for Mac 4.0 Mac Mini Edition to run multiple operating systems and applications on the same box," said Parallels vice president of marketing Kim Johnston.
"Businesses can reduce the need for different hardware platforms, saving space, power and administration time, while easily adding new services without the need to increase the budget for additional hardware purchases."
Parallels Server for Mac 4.0 Mini Edition will be available for purchase directly from the company for £249.
