Network performance management firm Visual Network Systems has unveiled a tool designed to help businesses and service providers pinpoint issues on remotely hosted cloud applications.

OmniPoint Element offers a point-of-presence reading from network tools such as Cisco's Service Ready Engines or virtual machines, with data displayed in Visual Network's Visual Performance Manager.

Kirk O'Connor, senior product manager for Visual Network, told V3.co.uk that OmniPoint Element helps companies using a range of networking suppliers and applications to track entire networks, and can scale over time.

"OmniPoint is based on bringing together the different environments on networks from the likes of Cisco, Riverbed and HP to provide IT staff in organisations or service providers with a clear insight as to where issues are occurring," he said.

"The uniqueness of the product is in its scalability as, while there are similar tools on the market, none can expand to the thousands of locations that this can."

OmniPoint Element can provide insights into a range of metrics, including bandwidth use, Mean Opinion Scores for real-time and back-in-time call quality on VoIP applications, and traffic patterns.

Visual Network is also aiming the product at the service provider and carrier markets that increasingly provide complete management offerings to smaller firms to alert them about when and where issues are occurring.

O'Connor added that the company has had the product in beta testing with a few companies already.

OmniPoint Element costs $1,300 (£790), while an additional VoIP tool is $895 (£545). The Cisco Service Ready Engines version is available now, and further updates will come over time.
