Red Hat has unveiled a line of platforms designed to expand the range of open cloud services for administrators and developers.

The CloudForms and OpenShift systems allow enterprises and developers to work with public and private clouds that support Red Hat's Linux and JBoss platforms.

CloudForms provides the ability to integrate on-premise and private cloud servers with public cloud platforms for enterprises wishing to build hybrid public and private cloud systems.

The platform also offers application management lifecycle (ALM) features to configure software perimeters and controls for enterprise applications on various cloud platforms.

Red Hat said that adding the ALM features and platform choices can eliminate the traditional hurdles for cloud computing such as complexity and security concerns.

"We really feel that we are redefining the capabilities for enterprises to build out these hybrid and private clouds," said Bryan Che, senior director for product management and marketing at Red Hat.

"If you want to bring the power and value of cloud to your enterprise it has to be able to encompass anything you are doing."

OpenShift, meanwhile, is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) designed for popular open source development languages, including Python, PHP, Java and Ruby.

"We can not only support them, but we can evolve the technologies to make this the best PaaS offering in the industry," said Red Hat 'cloud operations guru' Matt Hicks.

OpenShift will be available for free with optional premium paid services.
