BMC buys Coradiant to add application performance management

BMC is adding application and end-user management tools to its software suite with the acquisition of Coradiant.

Coradiant's software is being folded into BMC's systems management software as part of the company's Business Service Management (BSM) platform, and will be used by IT managers to allocate resources in cloud and hybrid environments.

"The addition of Coradiant's web application performance management capabilities to BMC's BSM platform establishes the industry's most comprehensive solution for anticipating and proactively addressing the end-user experience requirements of our customers' businesses," said Paul Avenant, senior vice president of BMC's solutions and brand management division.

"Until now, IT operations teams have struggled to deliver a consistently stellar end-user experience and proactively identify problems with applications before they negatively impact the business."

James Staten, principal analyst at Forrester, told V3.co.uk that BMC has a strong position in the systems management software market, but needs to update certain sections of its product line to compete with the likes of CA, HP and IBM.

"This purchase is a logical extension of where they've been going for some while," he said. "They are heading in the right direction and looking to get more relevant to systems managers."

BMC has a good reputation in the industry, particularly in helpdesk and workflow management, he said, and may be looking for more acquisitions in the future.
