Wyse Technology has released an updated version of its PocketCloud desktop virtualisation client, adding support for tablet devices based on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, such as Motorola's hotly anticipated Xoom.
PocketCloud is a software client that provides remote screen capabilities for virtual desktop sessions running in a datacentre, supporting VMware View, Microsoft's RDP for Terminal Server sessions, and the VNC remote screen protocol.
Wyse released a version for Android last year, but the new 1.2 release adds support for the Android Honeycomb APIs, taking advantage of larger screen layouts and offering new user interface features.
The company said that PocketCloud for Android 1.2 has been redesigned to take advantage of Honeycomb's tablet-oriented capabilities, and to provide the best remote access experience on Android-based tablets, with new layouts, navigation and user interface elements.
PocketCloud for Android is now a free download, and the RDP capability also lets users access and control their home PC or Mac from anywhere over Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G.
A new Wyse PocketCloud Companion for Windows PCs offers an Auto Discovery tool that automatically configures the host machine for remote access.
