Web developer UberMedia is reportedly developing a platform to take on micro-blogging giant Twitter.
A report on CNN cited multiple unnamed sources as claiming that UberMedia is looking to develop a service that entices people who are frustrated with shortcomings in the Twitter platform.
UberMedia specialises in applications that access the Twitter service. The company offers Twitter applications for the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and iPad platforms, along with applications for Mac OS X and a Firefox plug-in.
Twitter and Ubermedia have had a series of high-profile run-ins of late. In February, conflicts over Twitter's terms of service led to several UberMedia applications being temporarily blacklisted and locked out from access to the Twitter feed service.
UberMedia declined to comment on the CNN report, but a spokesperson supplied V3.co.uk with a statement from UberMedia marketing chief Steve Chadima on the firm's relationship with Twitter.
"Our foremost desire is to continue to innovate on the Twitter platform and bring more users and usage to Twitter," he said.
Twitter has faced other issues in recent weeks. The company has found itself warding off security threats and getting caught up in the infamous WikiLeaks scandal.
