EMC Isilon has updated its scale-out NAS hardware and software platforms designed to help enterprises keep on top of an ever-growing volume of data.

The Isilon S200 incorporates an Intel Xeon 5600 quad-core processor with STEC SSD and Hitachi SAS drives. The S200 also features 10 Gigabit Ethernet front-end networking and 13.8TB of cache to maximise performance for big data consumption, Isilon said.

The hardware is capable of 1.4 million Network File System operations per second, and has a throughput of 85GB/s from a single file system.

Isilon said that the S200 is ideal for organisations that process high volumes of data for design and simulation, digital media and financial analysis.

Meanwhile, the Isilon X200 is a more cost-effective option and offers over 30GB/s of aggregate throughput. This is suitable for powering big data workflows in cloud computing and large-scale virtualised environments, the firm said.

Isilon offers a range of storage configurations, and provides SAS or SATA interfaces.

Isilon has also refreshed its OneFS operating system and SyncIQ data replication software to maximise the performance of the S200 and X200.

OneFS 6.5 features improved functionality, allowing customers to create a single file system and single volume scalable to more than 10PB.

Meanwhile, SyncIQ 3.0 improves recovery point objectives, and provides "unmatched big data protection", the firm claimed.

"Not only has the big data era arrived, but it is already impacting our lives in a variety of ways, from the pursuit of personalised medicine to real-time social networking," said Sam Grocott, vice president of marketing at Isilon.

"With these new hardware and software products, Isilon is setting the standard for big data storage, enabling customers to unlock the full potential of their mission-critical information."

The Isilon S200 and X200 are available now. Prices for the X200 begin at $27,450 (£16,887) per node and the S200 starts at $57,569 (£35,416) per node.

Isilon's OneFS 6.5 and SyncIQ 3.0 are also avaialble now and free for Isilon customers with an existing support contract. OneFS 6.5 is standard with any S200 or X200 purchase, and SyncIQ has a list price of $4,950 (£3,044) per node.
