Seagate has unveiled a raft of solid-state drive (SSD) and hard-disk drive (HDD) units designed to cater to a wide range of enterprise requirements including server, bulk storage and archiving.

The Pulsar XT.2 enterprise SSD leads the refreshed line-up and is the fastest drive in the Seagate portfolio, with a sequential read speed of 360MB/s and write speed of 300MB/s.

The 2.5in single level cell (SLC) SSD has been designed to provide users with extreme performance and endurance, said John Shirley, product manager of the SSD enterprise unit at Seagate.

Features include native support for the 6Gbit/s SAS interface and users are able to choose between 100GB, 200GB and 400GB versions.

Shirley also noted that the Pulsar XT.2 is capable of carrying out 35 full drive writes per day throughout its five year product life cycle. This will equate to 15PB of data being written during the lifetime of the product, he said.

The Pulsar.2, meanwhile, is the first multi-level cell (MLC) SSD from an HDD vendor designed to handle enterprise applications, and is capable of 10 full drives writes per day, Shirley continued.

The drive is suited to use within virtualised environments as well as for use within systems that utilise online transaction processing, data warehousing and cloud computing.

Key features include native support for both 6Gbit/s SAS and SATA 6Gbit/s interfaces and up to 800GB of storage. The Pulsar.2 also has a built-in feature that allows it to automatically detect and correct data errors than can occur during normal drive operations.

Power loss data protection is also built in, to prevent data from being lost or changed during an unexpected power failure, the firm said.
