Vodafone has told customers that its UK mobile phone network suffered a serious problem this afternoon.
"There is a P1 (High Priority) Fault that has just come through [affecting] voice and data on the Vodafone network," the company said in a message to customers.
"It is being fully assessed at the moment, [and] we will confirm as we receive further updates."
The company has not revealed the nature of the fault, but the company's Twitter feed shows a rise in complaints about poor service over the past few hours.
Customers are being advised to review the company guidance on faults before contacting a representative.
One possibility is that the outage is related to the robbery that knocked out large sections of Vodafone's network last month. The lack of information provided at the time was citied as a major irritant by V3.co.uk readers.
Vodafone's fault report system shows eight site outrages in the past 24 hours, mainly in the south and west of the UK.
UPDATE: The company has told ITV that problems are being resolved but has declined to say what they were.
