Druva has released an update of its inSync backup tool for business laptops, which now supports Apple Mac, iPad and iPhone devices in addition to Windows PCs.

Available immediately, Druva inSync 4.1 Enterprise delivers near-instantaneous automated backups of mobile computers, according to the firm.

It does this by sending changes in data to a central backup server whenever the client system has an internet connection, providing as close to continuous data protection as possible.

This allows companies to ensure that data on laptops and other mobile devices is not lost, even if mobile users rarely connect directly to the corporate LAN.

"Over 28 per cent of all corporate data resides exclusively on laptop computers, and a staggering 17 per cent of those laptops lose data that cannot be recovered," said Druva chief executive Jaspreet Singh.

Since Druva inSync version 4.0, the company has added client support for Mac OS X systems, and now iPhone and iPad devices based on Apple iOS 3 and 4.

Key features for IT departments are the ability to push out the inSync client to laptops with no end-user input required, while the inSync Enterprise Server itself can be deployed in 20 minutes or less, according to Druva.

Druva's architecture uses application-aware de-duplication technology to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements by as much as 90 per cent, and the firm offers an "unbreakable backup" pledge that backups will succeed even over the weakest WAN link.

On the client side, backups occur as a background process and have no perceptible effect on laptop performance, Druva claimed.

Druva inSync 4.1 Enterprise pricing starts at $40 (£25) per inSync client, while a single inSync Enterprise Server can support up to 2,000 users, the firm said.
