IT service and asset management software vendor FrontRange Solutions has launched the first in a long line of software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings under its new SaaSIT brand, designed to offer enterprise-grade features with improved scalability and flexibility.

The latest version of the firm's IT Service Management product delivers a comprehensive list of service management, service catalogue and asset management features, the firm said.

These include reporting and analytics capabilities, change, knowledge and configuration management and VoIP functionality.

Also included are configuration management, incident management and internal and external customer self-service portals.

David Coyle, a vice president of research at Gartner, explained that the analyst firm had seen a strong increase in demand for IT service desk SaaS offerings over the past two years, and expects the trend to continue for some time.

"It is good news for IT service desk customers and the market to have SaaS and perpetual licence options available from established vendors," he said.

"Ultimately, companies should carefully evaluate SaaS solutions based on their business requirements and the overall value delivered by the vendor."

FrontRange said that it plans to roll out patch management, software distribution and operating system deployment capabilities among others later this year on the same multi-tenancy architecture.
