Check Point has released four new security applications for enterprises, the first products in its 3D Security programme designed to match security requirements with business best practice.

The four applications are being released as a free upgrade to existing customers of Check Point's R75 security platform. The 'virtual blades' cover application control, identity awareness, data loss prevention and mobile access.

The modules run on Check Point UTM-1 and Power-1 security appliances, IP appliances, open servers, within virtualised environments and on endpoints, and can be controlled from a central web console.

"We are pleased to bring to market a release that delivers on our vision of 3D Security," said Dorit Dor, vice president of products at Check Point.

"Check Point R75 enables customers to extend the firewall into a multi-functional and multi-dimensional gateway that consolidates protection into a single unified solution, allowing customers to enforce the security controls they need to respond to evolving needs and threats."

The 3D Security concept focuses on three key areas: policy, people and enforcement. Policies are devised at the start of the process to tailor security plans to business operations, educating the corporate workforce on good practice and backing it up with solid IT security systems.

Check Point's strategy of targeting solely enterprise customers has paid dividends, according to Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.

"Check Point is very much an enterprise-focused organisation. It has established itself in the market and is concentrated just on selling to it," he told V3.co.uk.

"The idea of a single architecture that can handle multiple virtual appliances is very appealing to buyers."
