Samsung has introduced two mono laser printers and two multi-function devices aimed at the enterprise workgroup market.
The ML-3310ND and ML-3710ND duplex mono printers use 600MHz dual-core processors and print at 31 and 35 pages per minute respectively.
They allow Wi-Fi and network printing, and Samsung claims that its extended life cartridges bring down costs for high volume users.
"We have increased our page speeds and enhanced our market leading 'Total Cost of Printing' message by the introduction of further high yield toners," said Dion Smith, general manager of Samsung's UK print division.
The SCX-4833FD and SCX-5737FW multi-function devices, meanwhile, use the same print engine but add a barcode scanner for back-office functions and password-protected printing to ensure that only authorised users can print certain documents.
The new hardware is part of Samsung's continuing efforts to break into the enterprise market from its core consumer base.
Sahaja Sarathy, senior research analyst for IDC's hardcopy peripheral solutions, told V3.co.uk that Samsung faces a long slog to carve a niche among so many established players.
"In order to get into the enterprise market Samsung needs a portfolio that focuses on the needs of workgroups and enterprises," she said.
"Samsung is doing well in the small and medium business space, but everyone's after selling the pages, not just the devices. Samsung needs to reach out to customers who print more and more, rather than buy hardware, because everyone's busy selling ink."
