Business software giant Sage has updated its flagship CRM offering to include much needed social integration with tools such as Twitter, as well as support for Microsoft Exchange and the iPhone.

Sage CRM v7.1 gives users much more control over how and where they access customer and corporate information.

Real-time synchronisation with Microsoft Exchange eases calendar and communications management, while Twitter integration means users can manage leads and customer conversations on Twitter from within Sage CRM, the firm said.

An interactive dashboard should improve manageability, and Sage CRM Report Charts could help boost productivity by providing instant insight on business performance.

"Whether in the office or on the move, Sage believes software should make it easier for people to do business," said Greg Ford, managing director of Sage's Mid Market Division.

"Our latest version of Sage CRM builds on this commitment by giving customers the flexibility, reliability, security and support to connect services and view their customer data in a way that best suits their needs now and in the future. "

Ford added that by connecting the most relevant and real-time information from across the business, Sage CRM can facilitate "joined-up thinking, informed decision making and greater business performance across an organisation".

Finally, Sage is also following the industry trend by offering support for the Apple iPhone with this release. Business software firms are increasingly being forced to respond to high customer demand for access to their apps on the go.

Sage CRM v7.1 is available in cloud, hosted or on-premise deployment options.
