The Foreign Intelligence Service, known colloquially as MI6, or more properly as the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), has launched a website to pull in more recruits.
The service, based in Vauxhall and headed by SIS chief John Scarlett, is recruiting spies, linguists and administrative employees at all levels.
SIS is looking for anyone over the age of 21, and makes particular mention of the opportunities for people planning a "career change".
The website details career options and the history and culture of the organisation, but leaves out crucial information.
"Regional instability, terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and illegal narcotics are among the major challenges of the 21st century," said SIS in a statement.
"To do this effectively SIS must protect the secrets of its sources and methods. This factor is reflected in our website."
The move comes two years after the domestic intelligence service, MI5, launched its first website.
"I applaud SIS, and its current chief John Scarlett, for taking this bold step,'' Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said today.
"I hope that this display of openness will help the public learn more about SIS and increase the appreciation of why its vital secrets must be preserved.''

what the hell?
I'm curious as to why Mr. Thomson decided to include the line "Cat stroking megalomaniacs need not apply"? I can fully understand the megalomaniac part but what would the Secret Intelligence Services have against persons who stroke cats? I realize this article is somewhat outdated, but please provide a response.
