Compaq is putting a Web agent inside each of its networking products to enable them to be viewed by standard browers.
Using its Web Management (Webm) system, launched for other products last year, the feature will be available on network hardware at the end of March.
The product will be integrated with Compaq's Network Management software, a configuration management, remote diagnostic and reporting facility which Compaq provides free with its networking tools.
Said Ian Whiting, director, network access and communications division, Compaq Emea, "The subtle difference [between Compaq and networking competitors] is that we provide free to large corporates what others sell for around $3,000."
