Sainsbury's slammed for sexy SMS

Mobile users in Stockport have attacked Sainsbury's for sending out a text message job advert with sexy undertones.

The supermarket sent a message reading: "I wnt u, I need u, I cnt get enuff of u," to advertise 400 jobs at a new store. Sainsbury's got the numbers from a direct marketing firm and added the number for Stockport Job Centre along with the ad.

The Job Centre switchboard was apparently almost at meltdown within minutes after recipients called to complain about the message. Some even said that their partners thought they were having an affair.

The supermarket ceased its SMS campaign after the Job Centre complained, and has since apologised.

Users have been wary of strange text messages after two mobile phone scams that tricked users into signing up for premium rate services hit the headlines earlier this week.

Gloucestershire police warned of an SMS which read: "Please call me on this number urgently." The call was routed to a recorded engaged tone, with the users being charged £5 for the privilege.

The "Hi Sexy" scam, also discovered earlier this week, conned users into signing up for a premium rate reverse messaging service which could cost them hundreds of pounds.
