Novell has unveiled two training programmes it claims will boost confidence in Linux by producing engineers certified to deploy the open standard's operating systems.
The newly launched Certified Linux Engineer (CLE) programme and SuSE Certified Linux Professional certification (SCLP) are designed to increase the base of technical knowledge on Linux, the company said.

Novell's vice president for worldwide services, Bob Couture, said in a statement: "For enterprises to adopt Linux and Novell Linux solutions, they need to know that there's a pool of expertise they can tap to install and manage those Linux environments, whether through their internal IT staff or through a trusted partner."
The Novell CLE requires a core understanding of Linux; candidates should have already obtained the level of knowledge required for the widely recognised Linux Professional Institute Certification Level I (LPIC-1).
Competency in the objectives of the LPIC-1 certification is required in the Novell Practicum exam for the CLE.
The SCLP programme is based on the LPIC-1, with enhancements. While the LPIC-1 checks basic distribution-independent Linux skills, candidates for the SCLP also need to show expertise in SuSE Linux Enterprise Server-specific issues that are not covered by the LPI exams.
