People with Android 1.6 and beyond can download the app from the Android Market. The mobile application supports all the basic features of the desktop version, including unread counts, friends, sharing, liking and starring.
Additional features include the ability to use multiple accounts, synchronise preferences and subscribe and search directly from handsets.
Other features highlighted by Google are the ability to navigate using the volume key, rename, unsubscribe or change folders, and send items using third-party apps.
"It's been a long time coming, but the official Google Reader app for Android is finally here," said Peter Baldwin in the Official Google Reader Blog.
"We're really excited to make the first version of the app available today, and we hope you'll try it out and let us know what you think on Twitter or our help forums.”
Google also started to roll out full mobile support for its cloud-based application Doc suite earlier this month.
Enterprise users with Android 2.2 and iOS 3.0 devices and above, including the iPad, will be able to edit documents on the move. Google-powered handsets will also support text-to-speech.
