LANDesk Software has updated its LANDesk Security Suite and Management Suite, promising improved security and support for mobile devices.

Version 9.0 of the software offers an increased focus on mobile devices and their support, allowing companies to manage, discover and secure any mobile devices on the network, the firm claimed.

LANDesk has also added support for Windows 7 and refreshed its anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities.

With an increased use of mobile devices, including the iPhone, LANDesk expects that its customers will benefit from the new control features. Importantly, the system can be used to monitor company and personally owned mobile handsets.

"The new version includes LANDesk Mobility Manager that allows IT managers to instantly discover mobile devices connecting to the corporate network, attribute them to a user account and wipe corporate data if needed," said Steve Workman, vice president of product management at LANDesk.

"This allows IT managers to feel more secure in their corporate environment while continuing to allow users to leverage new technologies such as iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices."

New features included a Mobility Manager, which LANDesk said addresses the increased use of personal devices, discovering them on the network without the need to install software at each end of the equation.

Adding to this are hooks into Microsoft ActiveSync and BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Unauthorised handsets appearing on the network can be immediately blocked, while authorised handsets can be stopped from downloading or accessing sensitive data.
