Google seeks contributions for YouTube documentary

Google is crowdsourcing its Life in a Day documentary through YouTube

Google is asking people to contribute footage for a documentary film entitled Life in a Day which will assemble video taken over a 24-hour period on 24 July.

Director Kevin Macdonald and producer Ridley Scott will turn the gathered footage into a feature-length documentary for the Sundance Film Festival.

The final submission date is 31 July, and entries should be made through the Life in a Day YouTube channel.

Contributors whose content is used in the film will be credited as co-directors, and 20 will win trips to attend the premiere.

"You can film the ordinary, a sunrise, the commute to work, a neighbourhood soccer match; or the extraordinary, a baby's first steps, your reaction to the passing of a loved one, or even a marriage," wrote Google product marketing manager Tim Partridge in a blog post.

The project is the second Google has offered to its YouTube contributors in recent weeks, having opened a competition in June to feature user-created videos in an exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum.
