IPv4 web addresses are fast running out

Ripe NCC, a not-for-profit internet infrastructure organisation, has launched a new web site designed to help companies find out more about migrating to the new IPv6 protocol.

The IPv6 Act Now site includes a position statement from Ripe NCC, supported by over 800 private and public sector organisations, including Google, Nokia and BT.

Ripe NCC claims that widespread deployment of IPv6 is key to the development of future IP networks, and encourages providers to make services available over IPv6, and for governments to take a lead in deployment.

Axel Pawlik, managing director of Ripe NCC, argued that multi-stakeholder co-operation is vital for the continued growth and success of the internet.

"The IPv6 Act Now web site is for everyone with an interest in the long-term growth and success of the internet, and for anyone seeking information to help guide them through the deployment of IPv6 in their network," he said.

"The support for the Ripe NCC community's IPv6 position statement demonstrates the willingness of public and private sector organisations to work together to deploy IPv6 sooner rather than later."

The site also includes information on IPv6 distribution policies, expert advice, relevant news stories, current uptake stats and other useful links.
