Kaspersky's latest offering is a new cryptographic security tool

Internet security firm Kaspersky Lab today launched new encryption capabilities designed to provide organisations with greater protection against accidental and malicious data breach incidents.

Kaspersky KryptoStorage encrypts catalogues, virtual disks and logical partitions of the hard drive, with encryption and decryption of hard disk partitions performed in the background, while the user is still working with the data.

When a user opens a document to read information it is automatically decrypted, and when it is written to a disk it is encrypted, enhancing usability and security, according to the vendor.

Encrypted folders and file containers can be saved on internal, external and local storage media, said Kaspersky Lab, with the option of using a single password for all protected objects or different passwords for each object.

The product is based on AES-128 encryption, and can also wipe data permanently from any media, ensuring the integrity of data lost on removable media.

"Unfortunately, data theft and the illegal use of other people's data is becoming increasingly widespread," said Kaspersky chief executive Eugene Kaspersky.

"Now, with the help of Kaspersky KryptoStorage, the user can protect against these threats. The product is easy to use and provides such a robust level of security that the 'bad guys' would have to spend hundreds of years trying to break into this impregnable digital safe."
