Duracell has unveiled a wireless charging pad designed to help business users charge multiple mobile devices without the need for cables.
The myGrid drop-and-go charging system can handle up to four devices at once. Users simply have to add a Power Sleeve or Power Clip accessory to their device and place it anywhere on the pad.
Duracell claimed that the system works at the same rate as the device's original charger when based on USB 2.0 connectivity.
MyGrid automatically stops charging the device when it is full, saving up to 15 per cent on energy by eliminating the risk of over-charging, the firm said.
Power sleeves and clips are available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry Curve and Pearl devices. Nokia handsets and all other phones can be charged via the micro-USB or mini-USB attachment.
Duracell is also touting the safety features of the myGrid. The pad automatically shuts off when touched, or when it detects moisture and metal items such as keys and coins.
The myGrid does not attempt to charge any objects placed on it without a Power Sleeve or Power Clip attachment.
The Duracell device is not the first wireless charging product, and the Powermat has been available in the UK for some time.
The myGrid is a bit pricey when compared to its rival. The starter kit costs £69.99 compared to the Powermat which is available for £55.55.
However, Duracell Power Sleeves and Clips retail for £19.99, whereas Powermat accessories are variable. The iPhone 3G attachment, for example, costs just over £30.
The myGrid is due out this month.
