First Cyber Security turns up heat on phishers

Phishing has become a major source of online fraud

Web authentication firm First Cyber Security today launched an extended version of its SOLID (Secure online identity) authentication service featuring new capabilities to help firms protect their customers from phishing scams.

The new functionality automatically redirects users who mistakenly click on links in phishing emails from the fraudulent site to the authentic site.

“It is difficult for email recipients to be on their guard at all times. In the last few days there has been another round of phishing emails promising rebates from HMRC,” said Rod Pugh, managing director of First Cyber Security.

“This service will ensure that should customers of banks and other organisations like HMRC that subscribe to our service, inadvertently select a link from such an email, their browser will be automatically redirected safely to the authentic site, preventing them from losing cash, personal data or inadvertently downloading malware.”

Tony Neate, managing director of UK securtity awareness-raising initiative Get Safe Online, described the new tool as a "welcome addition to people’s online security armoury".
