Telecoms firm Colt has unveiled a modular approach to constructing datacentres, which it claims can deliver large-scale projects in just four months.
The Colt Modular Data Centre scheme hinges on building facilities from 500 square metre blocks. Each is pre-built and tested before being shipped to the designated site for assembly, which can be anywhere in Europe, or housed and managed in one of Colt's own datacentre locations.
This allows even large-scale datacentres to be completed in about a third of the time required for a conventional build, according to the firm.
The new approach will be delivered by Colt's recently formed Data Centre Services division, which is to focus on providing large-scale datacentre facilities and services.
Colt chief executive Rakesh Bhasin claimed that the Colt Modular Data Centre approach will help customers address growing needs for high quality datacentre space, substantially reducing deployment times and helping to minimise power consumption.
"For our customers, the datacentre is one of the most critical components in ensuring the continuity and integrity of their IT services and operations," he said.
The datacentre modules come with a range of power and cooling options. The base configuration supports 750kW power and 1500W/ m2 power density, and each can be joined and double-stacked to provide a datacentre to suit the customer's capacity needs, Colt said.
