Motorola has revealed the Droid X smartphone at an event with US carrier Verizon, which will offer the device from 15 July.

The Droid X sports a 4.3in touch-screen display, DLNA and HDMI connection ports and an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p video.

The handset is powered by a 1GHz CPU, and has 8GB of built-in storage along with a MicroSD slot.

Motorola said that the Droid X supports the Android 2.2 operating system and Adobe Flash 10.1, although neither are expected to arrive until later this summer.

"We are breaking down barriers so that you can experience the web the way it was meant to be, and create, share and view content like never before, either in your hand or in your home," said Motorola mobile devices chief executive Sanjay Jha.

"Enterprise users will also find Droid X appealing with features including push email and live widgets for email and calendar updates."

The Droid X will retail with a two-year Verizon contract at $299.99 (£200), although a mail-in rebate will drop the cost to $199.99 (£133). Information on international availability was not given.

The July release could set up the Droid X for a summer showdown with the iPhone 4. The Apple handset is set to arrive at retailers in the US later this week, but Apple has said that white models and new pre-orders may not be available until July.
