Microsoft has made its Office Web Apps (OWA) available to customers in the UK through the firm's SkyDrive web service.
The services are slated for a full international rollout soon, but Microsoft has begun offering OWA in selected regions such as Ireland, the US and Canada.
The tools are designed to complement Office 2010 and help it better compete with a growing field of web-based productivity suites such as Google Apps. OWA allows users to view, share and edit Office documents online.
Microsoft might find itself with an uphill battle to push the service, however. A recent V3.co.uk poll showed that readers are less than enthusiastic about upgrading to Office 2010.
OWA is currently compatible with Mac and PC versions of Office, and smartphone platforms, and supports Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
