As expected, Viacom has filed an appeal in its landmark legal case with YouTube and Google.
The company formally filed the appeal with the US Second Court of Appeals in New York, asking federal judges to reconsider the victory awarded to YouTube and its parent Google.
The case stems from a complaint filed by Viacom alleging that YouTube was generating advertising profits from videos that had been taken illegally from Viacom programmes and uploaded to the site.
A judge ruled in favour of Google in June, ending a three-year legal campaign that included accusations of blackmail and fabricating evidence.
"We are disappointed with the judge's ruling, but confident that we will win on appeal," said Viacom in a statement.
"It is, and should be, illegal for companies to build their businesses with creative material they have stolen from others."
