Microsoft has unveiled its Live Labs strategy, a partnership between MSN and Microsoft Research, that will work with researchers across Redmond and the academic research community.
Live Labs will focus on internet-centric applied research programmes including the rapid prototyping and launching of emerging technologies, the incubation of entirely new inventions, and the improvement and acceleration of Windows Live offerings.
The initiative will also investigate research topics such as multimedia search, machine learning, distributed computing, data mining and disruptive technologies.
Microsoft said that strong academic engagement with the research community is fundamental to the lab's overall goals, and that its scientists and technologists will actively engage with the academic research community and publish their findings.
