Apple's anti-trust headaches refuse to go away

The European Union has reportedly joined an investigation of Apple's mobile software developer policies.

A report in The New York Post citing unnamed sources said that the European Commission is joining the Federal Trade Commission in its investigation of Apple's iOS platform and App Store mobile software service.

The authorities are believed to have been investigating Apple since the spring, when the firm placed new restrictions on developers creating applications for the platform.

The rules limited developers to using Apple's own developer tools, banning the use of popular platforms such as Adobe's Flash and angering some developers who believed that the move was designed to limit the ability to port software to other platforms.

Apple is involved in a public feud with Adobe over the exclusion of Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch products.

The company has also been linked to anti-trust investigations over its iAds platform, which restricted certain advertising networks from displaying mobile ads. Advertising network AdMob publically criticised the move as harming competition.
