Nvidia Quadro NVS 300 supports eight screens

Nvidia has released a professional graphics adapter capable of supporting up to eight displays while keeping power consumption to a minimum, according to the firm.

Available immediately, the Nvidia Quadro NVS 300 has 16 Cuda GPU compute cores coupled with 512MB of DDR3 memory, and supports display resolutions up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.

The adapter is designed for multi-screen applications, including command-and-control centres, trading floors and digital signage installations.

"The NVS 300 is built for demanding enterprises that require high reliability, improved manageability and tremendous value," said Jeff Brown, general manager of Nvidia's Professional Solutions Group.

A single NVS 300 supports only two video outputs, but uses built-in Nvidia Mosiac technology to deliver to eight displays using the combined output of four NVS 300 adapters fitted into a single workstation.

Mosaic can be used to drive several displays simultaneously, or one ultra-high resolution display, according to Nvidia. It also provides seamless taskbar spanning, and transparent scaling of any application across up to eight displays. Mosaic is supported only in Windows 7.

The NVS 300 has a single DMS-59 style connector, with cable adapters to connect twin DisplayPort, DVI or VGA monitors.

With two active displays, the card supports resolutions up to 1,920 x 1,200 on each panel, while a single DisplayPort output supports up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. Maximum resolution via VGA is 2,048 x 1,526 pixels.

Each NVS 300 has a maximum power consumption of 17.5W, which is 25 per cent less than Nvidia's existing NVS 295 display adapter, and a passive heatsink for quiet operation.

The recommended retail price for the NVS 300 is £109 + VAT.
