Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer has said that there is no point in his company developing an e-book reader.
Ballmer said he had no plans to develop such a device to compete with the fast-growing popularity of Amazon's Kindle and Sony's Reader, according to reports on Reuters.
Microsoft makes all the software that runs the most popular devices for electronic readers, and there really is no point in doing more, he indicated.
Ballmer suggested that the best equipment on which to read an e-book is a PC, and said that he is happy to work with Amazon to bring more books to the personal computer.
The software giant markets its Microsoft Reader software for PC-based book reading, and supports tablet PCs.
