Endpoint security firm CoSoSys has announced a web-based service designed to guard against threats from portable storage devices, such as USB memory sticks, without the need for a large IT department to oversee operations.
Available immediately, My Endpoint Protector (MyEPP) is the first software-as-a-service application to deliver data loss prevention and device control in the cloud, according to the firm. It is offered as a subscription service starting at just $2 (£1.20) per PC per month.
The service uses a policy-based approach to govern how data can be used on all endpoints within a customer organisation. Crucially, the protection applies to laptop PCs as well as desktops, so that mobile users are protected even when away from the company network.
"MyEPP makes enterprise-level device control and security accessible to even the smallest organisations without the need for expensive additional equipment or staff. Whether employees work from home, on the road or from remote locations, the security of their desktops and laptops can easily be centrally managed through the cloud," said CoSoSys chief executive Roman Foeckl.
MyEPP offers a web-based dashboard for management and reporting, through which customers can define specific rights for devices and users accessing the network.
Policy enforcement is made easy using customisable templates, and activity logs provide a comprehensive audit trail, according to CoSoSys. An offline mode also protects PCs even when disconnected from the network, regardless of user privilege level.
MyEPP runs on Windows XP and Vista, and is also compatible with the forthcoming Windows 7.
A free 10-day trial subscription for up to three PCs is available from the CoSoSys web site.
