IBM has launched data centre software that automatically detects and fixes performance problems, as part of its plan to provide what it calls 'self-healing' technology.

The tools improve on IBM's Tivoli software for monitoring business system performance and availability by pinpointing traffic problems and automating corrective solutions.

IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager finds and repairs network bottlenecks, with a focus on problems in systems composed of numerous, interconnected applications linked over the web.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1, an update to a previous product, finds additional servers when a key system, such as email or online bill payment, becomes overloaded.

Tivoli Systems Automation for Multiplatforms brings systems involving IT from different suppliers back online after a power outage or other failure, without losing data.

IBM said it has incorporated more than 475 self-repairing features into 75 different products since embarking on its drive towards self-healing technology.

US pricing is as follows: Tivoli Monitoring 6.1 starts at $700 per processor; Composite Application Manager starts at $5,000; and System Administration for Multiplatforms at $1,100.
