The student who set up a website attacking exam board Edexcel has been given guarantees by its chief executive that its mistakes will be amended.

Jonathan Higgs, 18, was furious that Edexcel made so many errors in administering exams and created the website Edexhell to protest.

Edexcel managed to score a PR own-goal by threatening the teenager with legal action. But it later backed down and instead invited Higgs to its London offices to explain the efforts it was making to correct the mistakes.

Higgs said he is impressed with the board's efforts to explain its mistakes, but has refused to change his website's name until he and his friends get their A-level results.

"The board has given me strong guarantees the mistakes that affected students up and down the country over the past year were not going to be repeated next year," he said.

"And I suppose I will be waiting to see how myself and my peers get on in our results before we can be totally assured."

Edexcel's chief executive, John Kerr, said: "I hope that Jonathan's visit to meet me and my colleagues will give him a real understanding of what it is that we do and witness where we have invested the £10m that Edexcel has put into the examination system."
