Seedcamp looks for innovation in Europe

Seedcamp, an organisation dedicated to promoting Europe’s best startups, has announced the six winners of this year’s competition, who each get €50,000 (£45,210) to help fund their further development.

In return for the investment, Seedcamp takes a five to 10 per cent equity stake in the venture.

The winners included two UK companies. One is Patients Know Best, which connects patients with their doctors online and gives them control of their medical history and care.

The other is BoxedIce, which has developed a hosted server monitoring service that provides administrators with performance metrics and alerts via email, SMS and the iPhone.

The other four startup winners are from Romania, Poland, Estonia and Jordan.

Romanian firm Brainient has come up with a way for businesses to monetise video content.

From Poland, a company called Codility allows recruiters without specialised IT knowledge to verify the programming skills of developers.

From Estonia, ERPLY provides a mix of customer relationship management (CRM), accounting, billing and inventory management software with an interface that brings together key indicators, such as team communications, important documents and CRM notifications.

Finally, Talasim.com is like a Middle East version of The Onion, a comedy community for the Arab world.

The competition was part of a week-long programme called Seedcamp Week that is aimed at helping entrepreneurs across Europe gain experience and funding for their startups by putting them in contact with serial entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, product designers and marketing specialists.
