Mobile operator Orange has announced plans to launch Sim cards which can store up to 8,000 times more data than current models, enabling the humble mobile phone to become a multimedia player.
The France Telecom unit said that the 512MB MegaSIM cards, expected to roll out in Europe this year, could store up to 130 songs, three movies or 80 Java games.
This compares with existing 64KB cards which can store a few phone numbers and some text messages.
The MegaSIM was the result of a collaboration with M-systems, Oberthur Card Systems and LG Electronics.
