IBM and Verizon have launched a risk management service that makes automatic copies of business data in the cloud.
Managed Data Vault will transport data safely offsite by combining Verizon's virtual private network services with IBM's backup software, said the partners in a statement yesterday.
"Managed Data Vault is a single secure solution to help clients retrieve a file, restore a device, or recover from a serious outage," said Don DeMarco, IBM business continuity and resiliency services vice president.
"Working with Verizon, we are addressing the needs of enterprise users with large data footprints, whether it's 15TB, 50TB, 150TB or even more."
Verizon Business chief marketing officer Kerry Bailey added: "We know that enterprise clients struggle with how to efficiently back up and restore data securely while mitigating the inherent risks such as loss of data.
"By working with IBM as part of our overall cloud strategy, we are bringing to market an innovative solution that will help our clients maintain the stability of their business."
The offering will initially be available to Verizon and IBM customers in the New York area. At the time of writing we was still waiting to hear if the service will be extended to the UK.
