A Scottish man has received a 60-day prison sentence for showing footage of an execution in Iraq on his mobile phone to a shop assistant.
Subhaan Younis, 23, showed images stored on his phone to Charlotte McClay last September in Glasgow. Younis claimed that he had downloaded the video from the internet.
"This was a colossal mistake on Mr Younis's part," said defence lawyer Dominic Sillar. "He did not believe he was acting maliciously when he showed McClay the image."
However, a magistrate at Glasgow District Court did not believe the explanation and found Younis guilty of committing a breach of the peace.
"I struggle to understand why you had images on your phone entailing the death and degradation of another human being, regardless of their religion or race," said the magistrate.
