Microsoft has unveiled the latest incarnation of its server hosting system, claiming that Windows-based Hosting version 3.0 features enhanced services and a more flexible provisioning platform.

The offering comprises eight modules, including infrastructure components to help hosting providers handle the building, provisioning, patching and monitoring of servers.

The latest version ships with three newly developed service components including Windows SharePoint Services hosting, designed to help customers create team-oriented websites for information sharing and document collaboration.

The addition of data hosting with SQL Server module is designed to offer customers shared or dedicated database services, while the web hosting with IIS offering provides services including support for ASP.Net, SSL, FTP, email and FrontPage Server extensions.

Microsoft claimed that the revamped Provisioning System included with version 3.0 includes a deployment tool that automates 85 per cent of installation and maintenance tasks.

"Windows-based hosting is a vibrant and growing business," said Andrew Schroepfer, founder and president of Tier 1 Research.

"We consistently hear from hosting service providers and hosting automation ISVs that they are working to better address this market demand."

Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting version 3.0 is commercially available immediately. Additional information is available here.
