Microsoft today announced that it is fleshing out its Dynamics AX enterprise resource planning software (ERP) by acquiring four packages from smaller ERP vendors in the areas of process manufacturing, professional services and retail.
The new products are already based on the Dynamics AX platform and so can be easily integrated into Microsoft's portfolio, said Crispin Read, Microsoft Dynamics ERP general manager.
“With these acquisitions we are investing in building industry functionality directly into the Microsoft Dynamics AX application, while other ERP vendors are cutting corners or trying to reconcile multiple industry offerings as a result of acquiring several companies,” Read added.
The manufacturing software is from Fullscope, and it provides integration of business processes for both discrete and process manufacturing.
The professional service product is from Computer Generated Solutions. According to its makers, it delivers a system to manage projects and resources, execute financial transactions and customer billing, and match resources with client assignments.
The two products will both be available to Microsoft Dynamics customers immediately.
The retail products are from LS Retail and from To-Increase. Microsoft said these will transcend the Dynamics platform to provide end-to-end retail functions, including store management, point-of-sale, and merchandising.
Read said the product roadmap for the integration and availability of the new retail products will be released in next few months.
