The BBC is kicking other UK sports sites into touch when it comes to online World Cup coverage, according to figures released by Nielsen NetRatings.
The BBC's online coverage accounts for 58 per cent of all UK traffic going to sports websites, with the official Yahoo FIFA World Cup website getting only one fifth of that traffic.
The week before England's knockout match with Ecuador saw three million UK visitors to sports and gambling websites, and a record one million users surfing those sites on the day of the match itself.
The BBC Sport website pulled in 1.58 million unique visitors overall last week, recording an average viewing time of 11 minutes.
The closest rival was Sky Sports, which boasted 423,000 unique visitors at an average of five minutes each.
The BBC said that its own web statistics showed its overall sports traffic as high as three million unique users when worldwide traffic was included.

Ronaldo is actually senagalese
Hi my name is Harry and I know Christiano Ronaldo. He is a close friend of my family and I know that he is actually from Senegal. He was paid a large sum of money by the Portugese government to play for them in the world cup. His real name is Marted Iverson and I think he should be fined by FIFA and deported back to Senegal. Thanks H.Horowitz
