Travel search site Kayak.com has opened up its service to any hotel that wishes to upload its details. It will also allow the addition of photographs and more detailed descriptions for £60 per year.
Kayak believes that opening up the site will enable it to build the world's largest hotel database.
Chief executive Steve Hafner said that many online travel sites only list 15 per cent of all known hotels due to exclusive arrangements.
The company has also introduced Kayak Buzz, a menu-driven option which claims to list the lowest air fares to the 25 most popular destinations from any airport or city.
This service will also be available by email so that users can get regular updates on routes of their choice.
Kayak was founded in January 2004 by former executives from Orbitz and Travelocity.
