Oracle has announced the launch of a new software-as-a-service product designed to manage corporate supply purchasing.
Oracle Sourcing On Demand is being sold as a method of managing the procurement supply chain by allowing different business divisions to have input into the purchasing of goods and services.
"The current economic environment presents a unique opportunity to drive mammoth savings from strategic sourcing," said Cliff Godwin, Oracle's senior vice president of application development.
"Sourcing capabilities can deliver immediate impact to an organisation's bottom line, helping offset the effects of shrinking revenue. We think that the time is right for a solution that can drive big cost reductions without requiring extensive capital expenditures or additional IT resources."
The new system is built around the same components as the company's E-Business Suite Release 12, helping integration with other products such as Oracle Purchasing.
"Software-as-a-service continues to build momentum in the supply management market because the line-of-business buyer can realise faster time-to-value, avoidance of IT expenses, no separate maintenance fees and a pay-for-use model, " said Mickey North Rizza, research director at analyst firm AMR Research.
