Veeam's Reporter tools discover and document virtual infrastructure

Virtual management tool vendor Veeam Software has updated its audit tool for VMware-based infrastructure with enhanced diagrams in reports and new change management features.

Available immediately, Veeam Reporter 3.5 and Veeam Reporter Enterprise 3.5 are both used for the discovery and documentation of virtual infrastructure based on VMware's ESX and ESXi products, with Reporter Enterprise better suited for very large environments.

New features include better management reporting using Visio diagram formats, and the ability to create custom report templates, according to Veeam.

Reporter Enterprise 3.5 also integrates with common configuration management processes thanks to an added ability to export data to a change management database, Veeam said. A Windows PowerShell script is included that can automatically perform the export process.

This periodic gathering of virtual infrastructure data allows administrators to analyse changes over time, and perform security auditing and troubleshooting, the company said.

"When managing a dynamic virtual datacentre it is critically important to document the environment on a regular basis," said Veeam chief executive Ratmir Timashev. He added that Reporter Enterprise can automate much of this work, eliminating the need for IT staff to perform a manual audit.

Veeam Reporter Enterprise 3.5 is priced at $375 (£256) per processor socket for each physical server managed, while Veeam Reporter 3.5 costs $250 (£171) per processor socket. Downloadable 30-day trial versions are also available.
