Chip developer VIA Technologies has unveiled a high-performance, low-power chipset optimised for AMD's Turion 64 mobile technology.
The company said that its VIA K8N800A chipset features the S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro Integrated Graphics Processor, providing high dual-pipeline graphics performance through a 128-bit 2D/3D engine and shared DDR memory support for 3D gaming and applications.

The Chromotion CE Video Display Engine blends hardware-based MPEG-2 decoding acceleration for digital video playback with advanced display technologies for enhanced video rendering and a rich visual experience, the company added. Support for an external AGP 8X port allows optional graphics processor upgrades.
"The power efficiency of the new VIA K8N800A chipset facilitates innovative lower profile design for AMD64 processor-based notebooks, and especially those powered by the forthcoming AMD Turion mobile technology," said Chewei Lin, VIA's vice president of product marketing.
Chris Cloran, director of the mobile marketing microprocessor business unit at AMD, added that the chipset would help boost battery life, wireless performance and security.
