Sony is teaming with US investment bank JP Morgan to let Playstation 2 consumers bank online using their consoles.
The Playstation 2 is on sale in Japan and will launch in the US and Europe later this year.
JP Morgan is investing $14.2 million in the project, which as well as the collaboration with Sony will also include Japanese bank Sakura.
The Sony-led online bank is slated to go live initially in Japan next year, subject to Japanese financial regulators' approval.
In a separate announcement earlier this week, Sakura confirmed that it is linking up with DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile phone company, to offer online banking on internet-enabled phones.
