Clarke: "Organisations are being overwhelmed by compliance"

Vulnerability management specialist Lumension today launched a new product designed to simplify and streamline customers' compliance efforts, reducing costs and providing greater visibility into an increasingly complex area.

Lumension Risk Manager (LRM), which is based on technology the firm acquired with its purchase of Securityworks earlier this year, replaces traditional spreadsheet-based approaches to compliance initiatives by automating the process.

"Risk and compliance is everywhere, forcing firms to pull together teams to assess their compliance status and put together methodologies to track the evolution towards compliance," said Lumension vice president, international, Andrew Clarke.

"We've refined these manual methods by automating the process and already mapping out all of the standards."

Lumension has teamed up with Network Frontiers to tap the Unified Compliance Framework, which contains more than 400 authoritative documents and 2,500 harmonised controls in order to ensure customers have access to the widest and most up-to-date information possible.

Given the automated nature of the LRM, firms will also be able to embark on any additional compliance initiatives in the future without needing to start from scratch, as the product will simply look at the gap between "what has been achieved and what they need to achieve", said Clarke.

"Organisations are being overwhelmed by compliance," he added. "We're extending our existing tools, which help customers to manage and control risk, to help comply with the regulations that are in front of them in a manageable, automated and repeatable way."
