Sun Microsystems announced yesterday that it has established a joint Java technology centre, located at the SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany.
The research and development group, with staff from both Sun and SAP, aims to assess, promote and optimise Java technology for adoption in SAP's enterprise products.
The focus of the venture is to facilitate closer integration between Sun's Java and SAP's NetWeaver services-oriented integration and application platform.
"We consider Java technology to be a core component of our strategy because of the momentum the Java technology community has in shaping an industry-wide standard platform for e-business applications," said Stephan Rossius, senior vice president of global partner management at SAP, in a statement:
Stuart Wells, senior vice president of Sun Microsystems' market development organisation, said: "We see the joint Java Technology Center as a means to enable SAP to build mission-critical applications ... with the SAP Web Application Server and Java technology at the heart of enterprise."
